Bengaluru Filter Editor
This is a prototype for reviewers to edit Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural and provide feedback while the full editor tool is being worked on.
Status
- October 2024: While discussing full India project, we decided to test a small use case to get feedback from India reviewers.
Resources
Filter Editor H3 tiles
The Filter Editor H3 Tiles project provides users with the capability to edit regions defined precisely by a set of H3 indices. Regions are stored as records within DynamoDB, where H3 indices are kept in an array format. Users can modify these arrays directly through the map-based interface overlaid with an H3 grid. Region edits on the map are immediately pushed as updates to the H3 array in the database, bypassing the need to store complex geometries and regions as tiles
Status
- Very early planning stages (April 2024)
- Meeting to gather requirements on 4/18/24
Resources
Habitat Viewer
The Habitat Viewer is a prototype for a potential project aimed at state agencies. It will include a selection of Road to Recovery species and will show various habitat data in map format.
Status
- Spring 2024: Initial prototype populated with dummy data is complete
- June 2024: Andrew Stillman prepared real data for 4 species to be added to dashboard before 7/25/24 CAPS quant meeting
Resources
Coverage Viewer (for partners)
The Coverage Viewer is a prototype for visualizing various eBird Status and Trends data coverage metrics, including spatial coverage, habitat selection probability, and sample size. It also includes a newly generated metric that attempts to distill the previous 3 variables into a single value. There is potential for the outreach team to use this tool to guide discussions and decision-making with partners.
Status
- March 2024: Demo has been shared with Cullen Hanks, Ian Davies, and John Garrett - all had different opinions how to utilize and market this tool
- April 2024: Demo has also been shared with Marshall Iliff, who says that he does not have capacity to lead this project
- May 2024: Demo with wider outreach team. Consensus is that a partner coverage tool and a high priority area search tool for public consumption are two separate projects.

Mesmerizing Migrants
Mesmerizing Migrants is a prototype for a dynamic version of the 2016 All About Birds Mesermizing Migration animation. It incorporates many of the requests and suggestions listed in the comment section of the blog, including allowing users to select species to focus on and adding labels that follow each circle on the map.
Status
- Prototype shared with both the larger S&T and Conservation Science teams with moderate interest
- Separate meeting with Alli Smith and Emily Engle about possibly including updates in an email newsletter blast
- No explicit interest in pursuing further as of April 2024
